The course focus on the Rapid Socio-Economic Survey Based on Focused Group Discussion that must be filled during the first site visit of the team.
It is given an explanation of the different questions, what information are required by the community and how to fill the questionnaire in Google Form once the connection is available.
One of the most crucial steps in the development of a water project is the site selection. The proper site selection will enable the water project to be more resilient, enhance water storage, and simplify the design.
The methodology adopted in Barwaaqo combines a remote sensing approach with the ensuing investigations, starting with the interpretation of the satellite photos and continuing through the field surveys.
The training will focus on:
· Analysis of the satellite images
· Community engagement
· Field surveys and investigations
QGIS software applications for mapping and spatial analysis.
QGIS is a user friendly open-source Geographic Information System (GIS). It allows users to analyze and edit spatial information, in addition to composing and exporting graphical maps.
The training will focus on:
· Presentation of the software and its potentiality
· Data needs
· Coordinates transformation
· Maps creation
· Main tools and plugins available
The Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) is a free software designed to simulate the complete hydrologic processes of dendritic watershed systems. The software includes many traditional hydrologic analysis procedures such as event infiltration, unit hydrographs, and hydrologic routing. HEC-HMS also includes procedures necessary for continuous simulation including evapo-transpiration, snowmelt, and soil moisture accounting. HMS is used to evaluate hydrological potential while designing water harvesting structures.
This course will teach skills in using the HEC-HMS for the purpose of conducting hydrologic modeling under the framework of the Barwaaqo Project in Somalia. The training will focus on:
· Presentation of the software and its potentiality
· Data needs
· Creation of a simple hydrological model
