The Hydrologic Modeling System (HEC-HMS) is a free software designed to simulate the complete hydrologic processes of dendritic watershed systems. The software includes many traditional hydrologic analysis procedures such as event infiltration, unit hydrographs, and hydrologic routing. HEC-HMS also includes procedures necessary for continuous simulation including evapo-transpiration, snowmelt, and soil moisture accounting. HMS is used to evaluate hydrological potential while designing water harvesting structures.
This course will teach skills in using the HEC-HMS for the purpose of conducting hydrologic modeling under the framework of the project. The training will focus on:
- Presentation of the software and its potentiality
- Data needs and analysis of collected data
- Climate change assessment and impact
- Creation of a simple hydrological model
- Implementation of extreme events module
- Model calibration and validation

The Reservoir System Simulation (HEC-ResSim) software is used to model reservoir operations at one or more reservoirs for a variety of operational goals and constraints. The software simulates reservoir operations for flood management, low flow augmentation and water supply for planning studies, detailed reservoir regulation plan investigations, and real-time decision support. The software can simulate single events or a full period-of-record using available time-steps. HEC-ResSim is a decision support tool that meets the needs of modelers performing reservoir project studies as well as meeting the needs of reservoir regulators during real-time events.
The training will focus on:
- Presentation of the software and its potentiality (HEC-ResSim)
- Data needs and analysis of collected data
- Climate change assessment and impact
- Simulation of baseline conditions

The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) is a robust hydrological model designed to predict the impact of land management practices on water, sediment, and agricultural chemical yields in large, complex watersheds. It simulates various physical processes such as surface runoff, evapotranspiration, groundwater flow, and nutrient cycling, offering detailed long-term predictions. SWAT is widely used in environmental planning and water resource management, aiding in the assessment of soil erosion, nutrient loading, and pollutant transport. The tool supports informed decision-making for sustainable watershed management and conservation practices. Additionally, SWAT's flexibility and adaptability make it a valuable resource for researchers and policymakers in addressing diverse hydrological challenges.
